Sean commenced riding aged 9 years and began polo at 13, following after his elder brother and parents who all played. His initial polo training was received from Mick Wilson-Smith (father), Richard Stone-Wigg and the late Simon Kuseyo who were top class players in Kenya. Sean also gained playing experience during school and college holidays.

In 2002 he undertook three months work experience (before starting college) at Devereaux Farm, Western Australia under the tutorage of Brett Kiely (of Rick Stowe’s Geebung Polo Team). His work here involved breaking and bringing on young polo ponies. Devereaux is a 7,500 acre farm 50kms north of Perth with over a hundred polo ponies, of which many are young unschooled horses.

Sean had five months college work placement in 2005 at the Edgeworth Polo Club, England, to gain further knowledge of stable, horse and polo management.

Experienced in all aspects of polo including:

​

• Playing in low, intermediate and medium goal tournaments

• Teaching beginner players

• Capable of working unsupervised managing all areas of horse and player welfare and training including formatting feed

• Exercise and schooling programmes

• Breaking and training young horses

• Planning and implementing players training, teams and matches

• Diagnosing of, and administering treatments for, various ailments and forms of lameness

At the beginning of the 2010 high goal season he was asked to have a trial with the Dubai team, in which he was able to play with some of the best players in the world including world number one Adolfo Cambiaso. After this trial he was chosen to be reserve for the team throughout the Queen’s cup and the Gold cup, of which Dubai ran out the winners in both tournaments of the British Open. Later in the season he played tournaments up to 8 goal at Cowdray Park Polo Club in Midhurst, and expanded his polo pony string further. Sean has recently been out to Argentina at La Dolfina.
